Reorganization Brings New faces and Changes in Work Assignments

One major change associated with the reorganization is the reassignment of responsibilities for some persons you have become familiar in working with over the years.  Ginny Williams is now part of the staff of the Provost’s Office, where she will be responsible for all aspects of initial hiring and contracting activities for faculty in all of the colleges.  She no longer has any role with respect to the management of undergraduate research funds or

faculty supplemental or faculty research grants.  Undergraduate research, faculty supplemental grants, and faculty research grants for faculty in the College of Arts and Sciences will be managed by the Office of the College of Arts and Sciences Dean.  Martha Link, the Dean’s Office Manager, will be able to assist you with your questions regarding those programs.  Faculty in the Colleges of Business and Education should contact their dean for information about similar grant programs that will be available to them through their colleges.

Richard Finkelstein, Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences, begins work on July 6 and will set up shop in the familiar place, George Washington Hall, room 314.  Ana Chichester will serve as Associate Dean for the College, and will provide valuable assistance to Richard as he becomes more familiar with UMW.  Ana’s experience last year assisting Rosemary Barra will provide important continuity as the new Dean assumes his role.

Because the Colleges of Business and Education have faculty and programming on both the Fredericksburg and Stafford campuses, each Dean will have an office on both campuses, with the Fredericksburg location serving as the Dean’s main office.  Office arrangements are not yet finalized, but they will be settled before the end of July.

As many of you know, we hired Taiwo Ande after a national search for an Assistant Provost for Assessment.  As a result of changes in the Office of the Vice President for Informational Technologies and Chief Information Officer, we took the opportunity to think carefully about the most appropriate location for institutional research activities.  The result of that examination is that Taiwo will be serving as Assistant Provost of Institutional Analysis and Effectiveness, where he will be in charge of assessment and institutional research activities.  Matt Wilkerson and Ashley Finelli will report to Taiwo and will be involved in a host of projects relating to institutional information gathering, reporting, assessment of program activities, and management of the “TracDat” program used for collecting assessment data .

In short, the Office of the Provost underwent a great deal of growth and change in the past several months.  The organization chart for the Office of the Provost offers a good overall view of the various elements that report to me under the University’s new organizational structure.
