Congratulations to Newly Promoted and Tenured Colleagues!

Even though this announcement was made in the late spring semester, it seems more than appropriate to mention again that ten of our colleagues have earned promotion and/or tenure.  I wanted to share their names again so that you might join me in congratulating them on the achievement of these significant professional milestones as we start our new academic year.  Two persons were tenured, another two were promoted to the rank of professor, and six additional faculty were both tenured and promoted to the rank of associate professor.  The full list of everyone who earned promotion or and/or tenure along with their college and department and/or disciplinary affiliation appears on the next page.

Those earning tenure are:

Laurie Abeel, College of Education, Foundations, Leadership, and Special Populations
Jane Huffman, College of Education, Foundations, Leadership, and Special Populations

Those earning promotion to the rank of professor are:

Jeffrey McClurken, College of Arts and Sciences, History and American Studies
Miriam Liss, College of Arts and Sciences, Psychology

Those earning tenure and promotion to the rank of associate professor are:

Surupa Gupta, College of Arts and Sciences, Political Science and International Affairs
Rosemary Jesionowski, College of Arts and Sciences, Studio Art
Emile Lester, College of Arts and Sciences, Political Science and International Affairs
Jeremy Larochelle, College of Arts and Sciences, Spanish
Danny Tweedy, College of Arts and Sciences, English
Ronald Zacharski, College of Arts and Sciences, Computer Science
Xiaofeng Zhao, College of Business, Management Science

EVERYONE listed above deserves recognition for their noteworthy achievements as well as our thanks for their many contributions to the University.  Perhaps you want to add your own words of congratulation when see them on campus (if you haven’t already done so, that is)!

Each college conducted separate promotion and tenure deliberations following procedures unique to each college.  As most of you know, the review process is an arduous one that begins in May (when the person formally requests to be considered) and doesn’t end until the following April when Board of Visitors makes the formal award of promotion or tenure. I offer everyone who earned promotion and/or tenure the very best wishes for continued professional success at UMW.
