Reminder about the President’s “All University” and the General Faculty Meeting!

We have two important and separate events that will kick off our new academic year — the President’s “All University” opening assembly on Wednesday, August 17 at 8:30 a.m. and the traditional General Faculty Meeting on Thursday, August 25 at 10 a.m. Each event will have a different focus and purpose. Please read on to learn few additional details about what will be happening at each session.

President Troy Paino’s All UMW Opening Assembly will be held on Wednesday, August 17, 8:30-9:30 AM, with coffee and pastries available starting at 8:00 AM, in Dodd Auditorium (GW Hall).  This event is open to all University employees. As Troy mentioned in his email on July 18, this event will be a celebration of our shared commitment to this community and an opportunity to look forward to the year ahead.  The plan is for this assembly to become a regular annual event.

The opening General Faculty Meeting will be on Thursday, August 25, from 10:00 AM to Noon, also in Dodd Auditorium.  Lunch will follow, in the University Center’s Chandler Ballroom.  In addition to addressing the university community on the 17th, President Paino will be present to address the faculty at the opening faculty meeting on the 25th.  As always, the opening faculty meeting will also include remarks from the Provost, introduction of new faculty, and announcement of this year’s Topher Bill Service Award winner.

And don’t forget, too, that Honor Convocation will be held on Friday, August 26, at 4:30 PM in the Anderson Center.  Faculty should convene 20 minutes beforehand in Goolrick Gym.

I hope to see you at these important start-of-the-year events!
